The BMW 3 Series needs no introduction as one of the best-known models in the luxury car segment. Having earned a reputation as a fantastic drivers’ cars in previous generations, the current seventh-generation model leans more toward the comfort end of the upscale compact car category.

For 2022, the 3 Series is carried over unchanged from last year.
Available Trims
BMW offers the 3 Series in 330i, 330e, and M340i trims. The 330i uses a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine, and the 330e adds an electric motor with plug-in hybrid capability. M340i models get a 3.0L turbo six-cylinder. An eight-speed transmission and AWD are standard with all engines.
Standard Features
The 330i comes standard with engine auto start/stop, remote engine start, 18-inch wheels, a sunroof, auto-dimming side and rearview mirrors, heated front sport seats, auto on/off LED headlights, automatic A/C, and digital gauges.
Also included is a suite of driver safety assists comprising forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot warning.
M340i models add M sport brakes and differential, variable sport steering, sensatec dashboard, automatic high beams, active guard forward collision warning, digital cockpit plus, a rear spoiler, and an M aero package.
Key Options
The 330i and 330e’s options start with a premium essential package of LED fog lights, lumbar support, passive keyless entry, and a heated steering wheel.
A premium enhanced package adds a head-up display, ambient lighting, integrated garage remote, a power trunk, and a parking assistant with 360-degree camera views.
A premium excellence pack further brings a sensatec dashboard, laser headlights, a drive recorder, a head-up display, and galvanic controls.
There’s also an M Sport package that adds aero exterior pieces, variable sport steering, and upgraded wheels.
Fuel Economy
BMW’s fuel consumption estimates for the 330i are 9.5/6.9 L/100 km (city/highway), while the M340i is rated for 10.4/7.7 L/100 km. In the 330e, BMW’s all-electric energy consumption rating is 3.5 Le/100 km, while hybrid operation is rated for 10.7/7.9 L/100 km. BMW says the 330e promises 32 km of electric driving on a full charge of the battery.
Competition
The BMW 3 Series lines up with the Audi A4/S4, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Infiniti Q50, Volvo S60, Acura TLX, Lexus IS, Cadillac CT5, Genesis G70, and the Alfa Romeo Giulia.
